Bamboo viscose: many advantages and some defects
Luca BensiViscose is an artificial yarn obtained through a chemical process that gives the fabric softness and shine, giving it a refined and pleasant appearance to wear.
This is a complex process that we will simplify for you:
- the plant fiber is crushed to obtain cellulose;
- the cellulose is then processed through chemical reactions to obtain the filament that will be used for spinning.
Being a process in which chemical substances (such as caustic soda) are used , it is important that the processing is seriously controlled for 2 main reasons:
- ensure that the fabric used is not harmful to the skin of the wearer
- guarantee workers working conditions without risks to their health
Now you can understand why we believe it is really important that this type of fabric has the highest certifications worldwide.

THE BAMBOO
We have chosen t-shirts made with a viscose obtained from the processing of a particular plant: bamboo.
A plant that has numerous advantages and which becomes a good solution for those who want to marry clothing produced in a responsible and sustainable way without sacrificing quality.
The largest bamboo cultivations are found in Asia, Africa and South America because it is a plant that requires a warm climate.
It grows in height allowing a much higher production yield than cotton, requires little water and does not need to be replanted as it grows spontaneously and very quickly.
Advantages and disadvantages?
Bamboo fiber has numerous properties:
ADVANTAGES |
It grows rapidly and requires limited areas of land as it grows upwards |
Cultivation requires much less water than growing cotton |
It has antibacterial properties |
Keeps you cool in summer and retains heat in winter |
It is extremely soft and pleasant on the skin |
It does not cause allergies and is breathable |
Although it derives from a chemical process, it still has a low environmental impact during the production phase (if the processing is controlled) |
Of course there are also some disadvantages and here they are:
DISADVANTAGES |
Bamboo viscose is an artificial fiber obtained from the processing of the plant |
It should not be considered natural fiber and chemicals are used in production |
Bamboo is a weed and crops must be controlled |
